Hey - isn't that the same vaccine that are MANDATING gets injected into infants immediately after they come out of the womb?

Why do you suppose infants need a vaccine for a sexually transmitted disease?

"PANIPAT: The district administration has ordered probe against a Kanpur-based NGO as 40 residents of Shehmalpur village of the district, including a woman sarpanch, fell ill after being vaccinated the 2nd dose against hepatitis B, during a special drive carried out by the NGO.

More than 300 villagers had received vaccination in November and December last, after which around 40 fell ill. Following this, villagers approached a local court and sent a legal notice to the NGO, Jan Kalyan Samiti, apprehending that spurious vaccine was used to immunize them.

Village sarpanch, Sunita Duhan, said that those immunized included a large number of children who were now bed-ridden due to deteriorating health. She, along with her niece, had also taken the injection after which they both fell ill, Sunita said.

Deputy commissioner, J S Ahlawat, when contacted, said that an inquiry has been ordered and on the basis of its report, action would be taken. Authorities would not show any laxity in dealing with anyone guilty of lapses, he added.

Meanwhile, the Haryana drug control department also ordered a parallel probe into the matter. A three-member team under senior drug controller of Karnal zone, Padam Singh Rathi, visited the village and conducted a survey. Rathi said they will send a report to senior officials of the department. Besides, the department had also got in touch with the said NGO and asked it to make available purchase documents of vaccination used in the drive. This, he said, was being done to verify if expired drugs were used in the drive.

It was being suspected that injections were given by untrained staff which could have led to infections, but only a detailed inquiry could reveal the exact cause, he said.

On the other hand, project director of the NGO, Upender, said, "Our NGO was taking care of the villagers. It was a minor infection which did not have any serious medical implication." Meanwhile, sources told TOI that permission was given to the NGO by the health department as there was no supply of Hepatitis B vaccination in government dispensaries for the last few months."
