in What You Don't Know Could Kill You

"Don’t turn away. I’m sorry to be so “in your face” about this, but please don’t turn away!

As per the latest facts and figures 1 is dying around the world every 20 minutes because of this disease.

Cancer isn’t pretty. If you’ve never seen it up close and personal, your only experience may be cute pink ribbons, “A Race for the Cure”, pink October, etc., and cancer doesn’t look so bad from that angle. Don’t get me wrong, those things are great and certainly bring awareness to this dreaded disease.

And still, someone, somewhere, dies every 20 minutes from breast cancer.

Yet Another Toxic Connection

The National Cancer Association released results of a 15-year study concluding that women who work in the home are at a 54% higher risk of developing cancer than women who work outside the home.

Why would that be? Studies have concluded that it’s toxins in the home!

Yes, My Little Card-Carrying, Boobie-Licious Friends…

… the average home in America … perhaps your home … is a veritable wasteland of chemicals and toxins that have been linked to breast cancer (and other cancers too)!

The ABC’s of the Toxic Chemical Connection

Begin by thinking of your home as a toxic waste dump. The average home today contains 62 toxic chemicals – more than a chemistry lab at the turn of the century.
More than 72,000 synthetic chemicals have been produced since WW II.

Less than 2% of synthetic chemicals in wide spread use have ever been tested for toxicity, birth defects or their mutagenic or carcinogenic effects.
The majority of chemicals have NEVER been tested for long-term effects.

An EPA survey concluded that indoor air was 3 to 70 times more polluted than outdoor air.

Another EPA study stated that the toxic chemicals in household cleaners are 3 times more likely to cause cancer than outdoor air.

CMHC reported that houses today are so energy efficient that “out gassing” of chemicals has nowhere to go, so it builds up inside the home.

We spend 90% of our time indoors and 65% of our time at home. Moms, infants and the elderly spend 90% of their time in the home.

Cancer rates have almost doubled since 1960.

Cancer is the number one cause of death for children.

There has been a 26% increase in breast cancer since 1982.

Breast cancer is the number one killer of women between the ages of 35 and 54.

Primary suspects are laundry detergents and bleach, household cleaners, and pesticides.

There has been a call from the U.S./ Canadian Commission to ban bleach in North America.

Bleach is being linked to the rising rates of breast cancer in women, reproductive problems in men, and learning and behavioral problems in children.

Chemicals get into our body through inhalation, ingestion and absorption.

We breathe 10 to 20 thousand liters of air per day.

I Used to Believe…

I used to believe that if it’s for sale in the grocery store it’s safe. I mean, we have agencies to protect us … right? WRONG!

If you still believe that, you couldn’t be further from the truth. Labeling laws do not protect the consumer – they protect big business.

Did you know that the labels on your cleaning products don’t even have to list all the ingredients that are in them? And most of the time they don’t!

What Can We Do About It?

We live in a toxic world and we can’t control everything in our environment, but we can control what we bring into our homes.

The research is out. Many/most of the cleaners we buy at our local grocery store are known to have cancer inducing chemicals in them. What really infuriates is that the manufacturers know it and choose to keep it on the market. It’s all about profit and chemicals are cheap!

To them, we’re like lambs to the slaughter and they’re laughing all the way to the bank!

“But I love Tide!” you say?

Oh, I can hear the whine from here … GET OVER IT!! Would you be willing to give up a breast for it?* What you don’t know could kill you!

There isn’t a household cleaner, bleach, disinfectant, air freshener (and don’t even get me started on those) that I’d be willing to die for.

I chose to kick the chemicals and toxins in my home to the curb. I did a “Green Home Makeover” and I feel a world better for it!

Since I’m Not a Chemist…

Please go natural ... it's a start!

I’ve chosen the only safe option that makes sense to me. I’ve chosen to give my household cleaners and personal care products business to a source I trust… a company with the kind of integrity I’m comfortable introducing to my family, because guess what … they don’t have to put everything on the labels either, but they do!

My lovelies, is there even one chemical laden, toxic cleaning product in your home that’s worth more than your family’s health? I’m on a mission to reverse the dis-ease that’s rampant in our country one blog post at a time. I’m hopeful that the right eyes will see it and a life will change forever.

The mind, once expanded to the dimensions of larger ideas, never returns to its original size. ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

Peace and love to you, my bleach free, boobie-licious friends!

*Tide is used merely as an example. The truth is most cleaners on the market put your health at considerable risk. And I’m not saying you’re going to get cancer if you use Tide, I’m simply saying you’re rolling the dice. Do you feel lucky? Would you gamble your family’s health? It’s an option, I guess."
